1969 was a great year in the U.S.A. if one avoids looking into politics. One could say 1969 was the first year of the new decade - the 1970s. Others have judged the other way around, that is: that the 1960s actually lasted until mid-1973.
Well, anyway, 1969 was the year the cassette tape was king... Woodstock made history and spawned Crosby, Stills & Nash and all the super-groups that would pop up since.
